In other sports, Tampa and Orlando have a rivalry known as the War on I-4. Starting in 2010, the war finds a new battlefield: the soccer pitch. The Tampa Bay Rowdies will join Orlando Tuzos U.S.A. in USL’s First Division for the 2010 season and the Orlando Tuzos Supporters Club will be there at every game to cheer the Gophers to victory. We’re talking with the Rowdies Supporters Group as to how the rivalry games will be handled. More info will be posted here when we have it.
There is also a discussion about a larger derby cup involving Orlando, Tampa, and the Puerto Rico Islanders. Miami FC will also be involved in the Ponce de Leon Cup in the event that they continue with operations in 2010 (in jeopardy because of Miami’s MLS bid). More information will be posted as it comes out.
